Mrs. Bardwell, 91, of Brookhaven died Friday, June 26, 2015, at her residence. She was born in Sontag on May 22, 1924, to Luther A. and Brittie Lee Douglas.

Mrs. Bardwell and her husband, Leon, operated Bardwell’s Cleaners until 1973 and opened Bardwell’s Alterations, which she continued operating after her husband’s death in 1989 until Nov. 6, 2014. Miss Lillian, as many customers and Brookhaven residents called her, worked until she was 90 years of age. She was a fixture in downtown Brookhaven for several decades.

She was a member of Jackson Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years. One of her passions was working the flower beds in her yard. She leaves behind her feline companions, Garfield and Buttercup, and her dog, Barkley.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six of her brothers, Marvin E., Marshall “Buddy”, Rev. Martin L., Oscar Odell, Troy Anding and Sidney; and two sisters, Alice Smith and Grace Case.

She is survived by her son, Leon Bardwell Jr. and his wife, Debby; her brother, Thomas Jack Douglas (Sarah); and her sister, Anna Crane (James Earl). There are too many nephews and nieces to even attempt to name; and a very special friend, June Sandifer. She loved her family and was loved by them in return.
