In an event stretching across two days, the congregation at New Vision Fellowship Church in Brookhaven invites everyone to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their pastor.
Saturday night at 6 p.m. New Vision’s choir, New Vision Ministry of Praise, will host the pastor’s pre-anniversary musical. The pastor’s anniversary service will take place during Sunday morning service the next day at 9 a.m. Both events will be held at New Vision Fellowship on 932 East Monticello St. in Brookhaven.
“It’s just an opening for the ceremony that will take place the next day,” Minister of Music, Denise Bryant said. She said the church has done the pastor’s anniversary as such for several years.
She said the pre-anniversary musical will feature New Vision Ministry of Praise. The rest of the event’s music will come from choirs, groups and dance teams that answered the church’s open invitation to perform at the event.
The pastor at New Vision Fellowship church is Bruce Smith, who has been the pastor since the church was founded.
“He is an awesome teacher and man of God,” Bryant said.
Bryant’s family joined the church 15 years ago and she said “it’s awesome” being under Smith’s leadership.
Bryant said she’s known Smith since she was a teenager before Smith became a preacher. After she got married she and her husband prayed about finding a long-term place of worship. They had been to church services and other church happenings at New Vision prior to their decision to become members.
“We knew it wasn’t a mistake because we were well pleased,” Bryant said.
Before long, Bryant became part of the choir there. For 10 years she’s served as choir director for New Vision and this is her second year serving as the Minister of Music.
Bryant said she’s been involved in the choir since she was 9 years old.
“I just love singing praise to God,” Bryant said.
Besides singing with the choir Bryant is part of a four-person group, New Anointed Voices, including Sandra Goodwin of New Vision Fellowship, and Tonya Jones and Linda Lilly, both from St. James M.B. Church. New Anointed Voices will also be performing during the pre-anniversary musical.
The event is open to the public and Bryant encourages everyone to come.
