Funeral services for Thad Gordon Tynes are Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Topeka Baptist Church in Jayess with burial in Roberts Memorial Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Saturday, May 23, 2015, from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Mr. Tynes, 72, died on May 20, 2015, at his residence. He was born on Nov. 12, 1942 in Tylertown to Mr. Robert Lee Tynes and Mrs. Helen Nelson Tynes.

Mr. Tynes was a Vietnam veteran and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He also served as deputy sheriff of Lawrence County, former volunteer fire fighter, former Silver Creek police chief and operated Tynes Small Engine Repair in Jayess for many years. He was also a member of the Good Sams Camellia Camping Club and member of the VFW.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Brent Tynes; and daughter, Katrina Singletary.

Survivors are his wife of 27 years, Theresa Tynes; sons, Scott Tynes and wife, Teri, of Monticello and Andrew Grant of Brookhaven; brother, Joe Tynes and wife, Rhonda, of Pontotoc; grandchildren, Alexandria Barton, David Grant, Ayla Grant and Cody Grant, along with a host of family and friends.
