BC recognizes athletes in Wednesday’s banquet

The Bogue Chitto faculty, coaches and family members gathered to honor the Bobcat athletes with a spring banquet Wednesday night to commemorate the slowpitch softball, football, cheerleaders, dance team, girls basketball, boys basketball, baseball, fastpitch softball, powerlift and archery seasons.

Bogue Chitto Principal Mickey Myers opened the ceremony welcoming the crowd to the banquet that was held at Bogue Chitto Cafeteria.

The Bogue Chitto dance team opened the awards banquet recognizing their first year achievements. Taylor Pickett received the team’s Leadership Award.

In cheer, Brooke Myers earned the Bobcats Heart and Soul Award and Elizabeth Corkern captured the Leadership Award.

In boys’ basketball, Coach Mark Pitts thanked the team for their hard work and their parents for all their work and sacrifices to make the season a success. Jeremiah Perkins was chosen as the team’s Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player. Dakota McGary took home the Best Defensive Player Award.

In baseball, Coach Pitts filled in for Head Baseball Coach Tony Davis and recognized the Bobcats baseball team. Steven Ginn won the Most Valuable Player honors and was selected as the Pitcher of the Year. Ginn just recently made a verbal commitment to play baseball for the Co-Lin Wolves. Nick Parker was the selected as the Best Offensive Player and Joey Elliot earned the Best Defensive Player Award.

In girls’ basketball, Coach Christi Terrell also thanked the players, parents and coaches for all their help during the basketball season. Coach Terrell recognized Zariah Matthews as the team’s Most Valuable Player and The Daily Leader’s All-Area Most Valuable Player. Karlie Williams was selected as the Best Offensive Player, Terrah Nelson took home the Best Defensive Player honors and Christian Black earned the Post Player of the Year Award.

Softball coach Scott Leggett recognized his slowpitch and fastpitch softball teams. He also thanked the players and everybody else that was involved in making the season a success.

In slowpitch softball, Christian Black received honors as she earned the Batting Title and The Daily Leader Slowpitch Most Valuable Players awards. Terrah captured the Golden Glove Sward and Brooke Myers secured the Pitchers Award.

In fastpitch softball, Coach Leggett recognized his girls and thanked them for their hard work. Zariah Matthews won the Batting Title Award. Alana Nettles earned the RBI Title Award. Christian Black took home the Pitching Award and Mallory Allen earned the Golden Glove honors.

In football, Coach Gareth Sartin thanked his football players, faculty, coaches and families for their hard work during the season. Bo Smithers received the Best Lineman award and Kobe Roberts was recognized as the Best Back. Cameron Price won the Most Valuable Special Team honors.

In powerlift, Coach Chad Norton recognized his team’s success as they battled through a rebuilding year to make it back to the state championship. Dakota McGary received a plague for winning the State Championship in 123-pound weight class. Devin McEwen captured the Best Heavy Lifter Title and Kobe Roberts earned the Best Light Lifter Title.

In archery, Dallas Reid took home the Male’s Top Shooter award and Brianna Espinoza earned the Female’s Top Shooter honors

Coach Norton closed the ceremony thanking the athletes, coaches and families for their wonderful year at Bogue Chitto.
