As classes near an end and summer quickly approaches, parents and guardians may be searching for things to keep the young ones occupied and their brains positively stimulated. Making that search easier are the host of summer camps provided by and hosted on the campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
The many camps offered provide educational or physical skill growth for youth from kindergarten to 12th grade. One such camp for older kids is the weeklong Art Camp that runs from June 1 to June 5 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The camp will introduce high school juniors and seniors to such mediums as ceramics, drawing, painting and filmmaking.
Another interesting camp that could turn heads, and more importantly for younger children, keep them turned is the Summer Entomology Camp for students in grades four through six. Activities at the camp include creating insect collections and searching for bugs along the Co-Lin Nature Trail. The entomology camp will take place later in the summer from July 20 to July 22.
For more musically-minded kids from grades one to six, there’s a music camp from June 15 to June 18. The camp, which will benefit the Co-Lin Concert Choir’s trip to Carnegie Hall, with include singing, crafts, games and snacks. Parents, family and friends will be graced with a group performance by all the campers on June 18.
Still more, as part of the Wolfpack Wellness Initiative the school is offering WOLF Pack Kids, which is a summer day camp for ages six to eight. The four-day day camp lasts from June 22 to June 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It provides kids the opportunity to participate in structured indoor and outdoor recreation activities while also providing engaging instruction that promotes and fosters active participation. Activities at the camp include traditional sports, disc golf, jump ropes, scooter derby and other team building games.
Focusing heavily on mental and intellectual activity is the ACT Summer Boot Camp for math and science on May 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Deadline to register for the camp is May 14 at 4 p.m. and will be presented by Dot McClendon.
On top of all the specialized activity camps, the campus will also be home to various athletic camps including softball, baseball, basketball, cheer and junior golf.
More information about these camps and the other camps that will be hosted by or held at Co-Lin can be found on the Co-Lin website by clicking on the “Summer Camps” image on the school’s homepage.
