The Lincoln County Public Library next week will join libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians and library workers.
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. Librarians work with elected officials, small business owners, students and the public to discover and meet the needs of their communities.
The Lincoln County Public Library serves the area by providing access to computers, Internet, educational databases, story times for the younger patrons, reservations for meetings, borrowing of titles and many more resources. Also, the Friends of the Library offer various programs free to the public. “Lunch and Learn,” a program in which patrons are invited to bring a sack lunch and listen to a guest speaker during their lunch break, takes place every third Thursday of each month. Every fourth Thursday of each month, the Friends sponsor a movie day where the public is invited to sit in on a screening of a popular movie, classic or new.
The Lincoln County Public Library is celebrating National Library Week by sponsoring a “Snapshot Day” Monday. The library will collect an array of statistics from how many people visit the library in the day to how many resources were used. Throughout the week children and adults can participate in programs at the library. The following is a schedule for National Library Week at the Lincoln County Public Library:
