Trojans escape Enterprise with victories

Basketball fans gathered at Enterprise on Friday night as the Yellow Jackets hosted the Amite County Trojans in a pair of critical district games.
In the varsity girls’ game, the Lady Trojans squeaked past the Lady Jackets 33-30.
In boys’ action, the Enterprise boys, fresh off back-to-back district wins, fell short 75-42 to Amite County.
Enterprise resumes district play on Tuesday night as they host archrival Loyd Star. Junior varsity action will tip things off between the Hornets and Yellow Jackets starting at 4 p.m.
Amite County 33, Enterprise 30
In the varsity girls’ game, the Enterprise Lady Jackets gave Amite County all they could handle as the Lady Trojans narrowly escaped Enterprise with a 33-30 win.
With the win, Amite County improved to 21-3 on the season and remain a perfect 7-0 in district. The Lady Jackets fell to 13-10, and 1-6 in district.
In the first quarter, both teams played with a solid defensive effort as the Lady Trojans claimed a 7-6 advantage after the first eight minutes of play.
Strong defense continued to be the theme in the second quarter as Enterprise pulled ahead by a 15-13 score going into halftime.
In the third quarter, both teams combined for only ten points total as the game was deadlocked at 19 a piece going into the fourth quarter.
The ball would seem to find the bottom of the net more for both teams in the fourth quarter as the Lady Trojans outscored Enterprise 14-11 in the final frame which would be enough for Amite County to escape with a three point victory.
Enterprise was led by Alissa Barlow’s 15 points and five steals. Adrienne Byrd led the Lady Jackets on the backboards as she finished with eight rebounds to go along with five steals.
Amite County was led by Dahlia Taplin’s 11 points, including a three-pointer that would prove to be the dagger in the end.
Amite County 75, Enterprise 42
In the varsity boys’ contest, Amite County exploded with a huge second half as they cruised past Enterprise 75-42.
In the first quarter of action, both teams battled back and forth as Enterprise held a slim 10-9 lead after one quarter of play.
In the second quarter, the Trojans’ offense awoke as they outscored Enterprise (11-12, 2-5) 21-8 in the period to take a 30-18 lead going into the locker room at halftime.
Dwayne Pendleton powered Enterprise offensively on the night scoring 18 points. Jontavious Smith added 11 points to the Jacket total.
In the third quarter, Amite County continued to see its lead swell to 43-27 going into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, the Trojans scored a whopping 32 points as they cruised to the win.
Darrion Robinson scored a game-high 20 points to lead Amite County.
