Newton clobbers West Lincoln

BAY SPRINGS – The West Lincoln Bears suffered a tough 61-38 loss to the Newton Tigers Saturday morning in a non-divisional contest at Bay Springs Basketball Tournament.
West Lincoln returns home to welcome the Amite County Trojans to Jack Case Gymnasium Tuesday for another huge district test. The junior varsity boys will begin the action at 5 p.m., followed by a pair of varsity games.
Newton 61, West Lincoln 38
The Bears and Tigers battled in a close first quarter of action as West Lincoln managed to take a 10-8 lead.
In the second quarter, Newton quickly overpowered the Bears with a 13-6 run to gain control and carry a 21-16 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, the Tigers outscored the Bears 40-21 in the final two quarters to secure the victory.
“We played poorly in the second half and did not compete like we needed to,” West Lincoln Coach Lane Young said. “Hopefully, we can learn from this game.”
Ronnie Edwards was the top scorer for the Bears with 11 points and had seven rebounds. Zekenith Porter contributed 10 points. Keshaun London provided eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
DeAngelo Flowers powered the Tigers with 17 points. Isaiah Edwards chipped in 13 points.
