Funeral Services for Gladys Smith Lofton of Bogue Chitto are 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Services.

Mrs. Lofton, 89, died Jan. 16, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Brookhaven. She was born on May 6, 1925, in Bogue Chitto to Tom and Lou Mae Smith.

She was a homemaker and devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church where she loved to worship.

An avid sports fan her whole life Mrs. Gladys was known to family and friends as “Four Penny”. She held a state baseball throw record that she loved to talk about. One of her greatest joys was coaching and helping the young girls at Calvary Church learn to play and love the game of softball.

Preceding her in death were parents; husband, James Allen Lofton; brothers, Lamar Smith, O.D. Smith, Charles Ray Smith; and sister, Ruby Smith Lofton

Survivors are her sons, James Hilton Lofton and wife, Donna, of Weems, Virginia, Phillip Lofton of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; daughter, Patricia Douglas and husband, Carlos, of Brookhaven; eight grandchildren, James Kenneth Lofton and wife, Deborah, of Wayne, Pennsylvania, Donna Denise Lofton of Fairfax, Virginia, Andrew Aaron Lofton and wife, Sarah, of Charlottesville, Virginia; Justin Lamar Douglas and wife, Beth, of Brookhaven, Jason Allen Douglas and wife, Leslie, of Brookhaven, Patricia Diane Briski and husband, David, of New Orleans, Louisiana, Rachel and Lauren Lofton of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; 11 great-grandchildren, James Dennis, Patrick Joseph, Shane Mannion, Wade Thomas, Winston Elizabeth and Annabelle Moak Lofton, Jacie Ashlyn, Taylor Addyson, Bailey Marie and Jakson Lamar Douglas and Luke Phillip Briski.

The family would like to thank the special care givers of the Golden Living Center and Hospice Ministries for all their loving care.
