Amite County stuns Loyd Stars

The Loyd Star Hornets suffered a disappointing 30-28 setback to the Amite County Trojans Friday night in an exciting offensive and defensive battle between two Region 7-2A foes on William E. “Sambo” Smith Field.
Sophomore quarterback Parker Flowers helped put the Hornets on the scoreboard in the first quarter with a rushing touchdown.
In the second quarter, defensive tackle Cameron Smith added another touchdown for Loyd Star as he returned a 56-yard fumble recovery to pay dirt.
The Hornets were successful on two two-point conversion tries as Anfernee Claire and Peyton Flowers bulldozed through the Trojan’s line to collect.
Loyd Star added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Parker Flowers cashed in his second rushing touchdown and Zac Arnold returned an 83-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Arnold powered the Hornets’ rushing attack with 76 yards on 13 carries. Brett Calcote contributed 17 rushes for 56 yards.
Parker Flowers completed four-of-nine passes for 13 yards and rushed 77 yards on 13 carries. Loyd Star finished with 365 total offensive yards.
Defensively, Peyton Flowers had a dominating performance for the Hornets leading the team with 22 tackles and a forced fumble. Parker Flowers provided 13 tackles. Calcote had seven stops, and Smith contributed five tackles.
Loyd Star (2-5, 1-1) welcomes the East Marion Eagles to Lincoln County for more Region 7-2A action next Friday Night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
