BA Lady Cougars win two big district games

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars are riding a two-game winning streak after knocking the Amite School Center Lady Rebels 12-4 Tuesday night in MAIS Softball action.
In Monday’s results, the Lady Cougars defeated the Prentiss Christian Saints 5-4. With these two victories in District 2AA action, BA has improved their 4-2 in the standings and are in the driver seat to clinch a playoff spot as a second or third seed.
“This was a great win for our seniors on senior night,” said BA coach Becky Flowers. “Our seniors have really stepped up and were leaders tonight. Overall, we hit the ball really well and were great on defense.”
The Lady Cougars (13-15, 4-2) will resume action Saturday as they prepare to host the Bowling Green Lady Buccaneers. Junior varsity action starts at 11 a.m. followed by the varsity contest at 12:30 p.m.
BA 12, ASC 4
BA quickly overpowered the Lady Rebels in the first three-innings of action as they commanded an 11-2 lead over ASC.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Rebels managed to score two more runs and threatened to tally back, but the Lady Cougars defense denied their attempt and held on for the win.
Olivia Lofton was the winning pitcher for BA with five strikeouts and five walks.
Maura Dunaway sparked the Lady Cougars at the plate with a two-run home run. Amanda Rushing fueled the flames with a pair of doubles. Anna Smith provided a double and a single. Anna Grace Covington and K.K. Jordan ripped a double each. Hitting safely were Olivia Lofton and Morgan Walker.
BA 5, PCS 4
The Lady Cougars roared out to take an early 5-0 lead in four innings of action and managed to fend off the Lady Saints’ late rally to secure the win.
Lofton pitched the win for the Lady Cougars collecting three strikeouts and allowed two walks.
Bailey Foster took the loss for Prentiss Christian with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Anna Smith and Morgan Walker were BA’s top offensive hitters with two singles apiece. Jordan had a double. Alex Rae Smith, Olivia Thornton, Dunaway and Lofton hit safely.
