Funeral Services for James William “Bill” Black of Georgiana, Alabama, are 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at Cope’s Funeral Home in Evergreen, Alabama, with burial in Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen. Cope’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Cope’s Funeral Home in Evergreen, Alabama.
Mr. Black, 81, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014. He was born on Sept. 27, 1932, in Monroe County, Alabama, to Conrad and Ola Mae Black.
He graduated from Evergreen High School in 1952 and received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Alabama in 1956. Following college he married the late Barbara Edeker Black Easterwood of Evergreen, Alabama.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division/Tropic Lightening at Schofield Barracks in Wahaiawa, Hawaii as 1st Lieutenant, with service in USAR PAC, Territory of Hawaii, EIB, where he received various awards, including a wreath for scholastic achievement and an Expert Infantry Badge. He served for 12 years, including in reserves. He was a member of the American Legion and NRA.
He was a retired corporate level technical executive for St. Regis Paper/Champion Corp. in New York, Connecticut and Mississippi and did consulting work for CRS Sirrine Consulting Engineers in South Carolina. Early in his career he worked with BF Goodrich in Ohio and Tennessee.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved cooking and entertaining in the country and was very proud American. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors are his son, Mark William Black and his wife, Terri S. Black, their four children, Lauren, Jeremie, Ellen and Jason of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Lisa Black Jeanson and her husband, Frank Jeanson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and their three children, Bethany Jeanson Bremer, Gracie Jeanson Turrubiartes and Jacob Jeanson; and his daughter, Sherry Lea Black of Houston, Texas; his beloved beagle, Daisy; two sisters, Eva S. McCutcheon of Evergreen, Alabama, and Oleene B. Williams of Letochatchee, Alabama; and his wife, Josephine F. Black of Suffern, New York.
