Franklin County crushes Hazlehurst

HAZLEHURST – Derrick Brumfield was in a zone Friday afternoon and the Hazlehurst Indians could not do nothing to stop him.
The Franklin County senior hit a home run and ripped a triple and a single for 5 RBI’s in a 19-2 victory over the Indians. It was perhaps a career game for Brumfield, who helped the Bulldogs secure second place in the 7-3A standings behind Wesson.
Bulldogs junior Ethan Verdin also added a home run and a single for three RBI’s. Verdin pitched the win for the Bulldogs, striking out seven.
Juniors Graham Cowart and Bernard Selmon collected two hits apiece. Cowart had a double, while Selmon added a triple. Each had two RBI’s.
The Bulldogs exploded for 11 runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach of the Indians.
Hazlehurst lost to Franklin County 5-4, Wednesday night in Bude, The Bulldogs sweep gives them a home playoff series in a few weeks when the post season begins.
