BUDE – The Franklin County Diamond Dawgs collected a 5-4 win over district rival Hazlehurst Wednesday night in ‘The Swamp.’

The Bulldogs (10-6) will play the Indians at Hazlehurst Friday at 5 in game two of the series.

Wesson currently leads the 7-3A standings, followed by FCHS and Hazlehurst.

The Bulldogs overcame an early 1-0 first inning deficit to strap together a somewhat comfy 5-1 lead heading into the 7th inning.

The Indians produced three runs to cut the lead to one before the Bulldogs finally ended the game.

Derrick Brumfield pitched the win for the Dawgs, striking out five batters.

LaDarrius Williams absorbed the loss for Hazlehurst. He also struck out five batters.

At the plate, Frank Thigpin led all batters with two singles and three RBI’s.

For the Bulldogs, Hoby Mullins had two RBI’s. Bernard Selmon and Bryce White also had an RBI-hit each.
