BA blasts Central Hinds

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars were victorious Thursday night with a 5-2 win over the Central Hinds Cougars in MAIS baseball action at Harold-Williams Baseball Park.
BA’s win completed a two-game sweep over the Raymond-based Cougars in the district 2-AA race and puts the Lincoln County-based Cougars in the driver seat for the district championship.
“This was a big win for us,” said BA coach Casey Edwards. “Our seniors stepped up big and provided great leadership. I also have to give my pitchers credit for their huge effort on the mound. Jacob Boyd also did a great job coming through with a big hit in both games.”
Brookhaven Academy (10-7, 3-1) will resume action Saturday as they prepare to host Simpson Academy. Junior varsity action starts at 1 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 3 p.m.

Brookhaven and Central Hinds baseball gathered to witness a tough battle as the both teams came out strong to open the contest.
BA managed to break up the scoreless game in the bottom of the second with a two-run blast by right fielder Jacob Boyd
The Lincoln County-based Cougars would increase their lead in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-0 advantage.
Central Hinds managed to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning and break up BA’s bid of a no-hitter as Britton Johnson hit a solo home run.
Brookhaven Academy would add one more run in the sixth inning for insurance.
In the top of the seventh inning, Central Hinds refused to give up and made a great effort to rally back but fell short at the end scoring only one run.
Senior Bailey Warren dominated the pitcher mound for BA with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Peyton Banes suffered the loss for Central Hinds with two strikeouts and one walk.
Boyd was the offensive leader at the plate for BA with a two-run home run. Steven Williams contributed a double and a single. Landon Nettles hit safely.
Johnson was the top hitter for the Raymond-based Cougars with a home run. Hitting safely were Alex Biggs, Ty Mohler, Jake Hale and Braxton Michels.
In junior varsity action, Brookhaven Academy knocked off Central Hinds 6-2.
Williams King tossed the victory for BA with seven strikeouts and one walk. Heath Hickman (2K, 0BB) also saw some action in relief.
The Lincoln County-based Cougars were lead at the plate with a single each from Connor Dorman, Lamar Lang, Madison Smith, Taylor Freeny and Austin Smith.
Chase Rouchelle took the loss for Central Hinds with one strikeout and one walk. Seth Moler (1K, 2BB) pitched in relief.
Hunter Harvey paced Central Hinds’ offense with a double. Jackson Smith, Zack Talley, Will Neely and Prentice Brown hit safely.
