Lady Hornets edge Bogue Chitto

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets are riding a seven-game winning streak after defeating the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats 4-3 in a thrilling softball contest Friday night.
“I am very proud of the girls for keeping their composure and fighting back into the game,” said Loyd Star coach Jan Delaughter. “We managed to put together some great timely hit at the right time. Raigan Smith’s home run was huge for us in the third inning.”
The Lady Hornets (7-1, 1-0) return to district action Tuesday as they visit their new region foe, the West Lincoln Lady Bears. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.

Mackenzie Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornets with two strikeouts and one walk.
Alana Nettles suffered the setback for the Lady Cats with three strikeouts and no walks. Christian Black (3K, 1BB) saw action in the pitcher circle in relief.
Raigan Smith powered the Loyd Star’s offense with a home run. Abigail Thornton, Kelsie McCullough, Megan Norton and Lexie Butler hit safely.
Black was the top hitter for Bogue Chitto with a home run in the third inning and a single. Hitting safely behind her were Mattie Avants, Daley Roberts, Terrah Nelson and Alexis Givens.
“This was a great game for both teams,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “I felt like we could have finished a few plays off on defense that could have helped us get the win.”
In junior varsity action, Loyd Star won 3-1 over Bogue Chitto.
Johnna Norman directed the Lady Hornets at the plate with two doubles. Megan Norton and Katie West contributed a double apiece.
The Lady Cats were led at the plate with a single each from Reagan Kirkland, Karley Leake and Brooke Myers.
