Lady Hornets clobber Brookhaven

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets conducted a hitting clinic Tuesday night as they blast the Brookhaven Lady Panthers 14-2 in softball action at the Ole Brook Softball complex.
“We hit the ball really well tonight,” said Loyd Star coach Jan Delaughter. “This was the best offensive game that I have seen from this group for a while.”
The Lady Hornets (5-1) begins Region 6-2A action Thursday as they travel to Columbia to tangle with the East Marion Lady Eagles. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6.
The Lady Panthers (4-4) resume action Thursday as they host the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6.
Loyd Star 14, Brookhaven 2
Makenzie Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornets with two strikeouts and three walks.
Katherine Shell suffered the setback for the Lady Panthers with two strikeouts and one walk.
Lexie Butler sparked the offensive explosion for Loyd Star with two home runs. A two-run homer in the second inning and a three-run homer in the third inning. Ali Gartman fueled the flames with a three-run homer in the third inning and ripped two singles. Madison Jones continued the onslaught with a two-run homer in the third inning and provided a double and a single. Makenzie Smith had two singles. Hitting safely were Brooks Rushing, Abigail Thornton and Julie Smith.
Danielle Batteast was the top hitter for the Lady Panthers with a double. Shell hit a single.
“Loyd Star played an outstanding game,” said BHS coach Chad Walker. “They hit the ball and we did not.”
In junior varsity action, Brookhaven rallied to clip Loyd Star 8-7.
Madison Thompson and Rileigh Allen teamed up to pitched the win for Brookhaven.
Jada Henderson and Allen powered the Lady Panthers with a triple and a single apiece. Kat Wallace provided a pair of singles. Destiny Trevillion, Jayden Fuller and Fallon Brooks hit safely.
