Funeral services for George R. Gibson of McComb are noon on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home with burial in Hollywood Cemetery. Bro. Mike Smith will officiate. Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.

Mr. Gibson, 94, died Feb. 25, 2014, at his residence. He was born Dec. 21, 1919, to Van Steve Gibson and Sarah Case Gibson.

He was a United States Navy veteran, who served on the LST ship in the Pacific during World War II. He was a skilled carpenter and an expert raw timber appraiser. He retired from Fernwood Industries after many years as a timber buyer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of McComb for more than 60 years and he also attended Bethel Baptist and Riverside Baptist churches in Monticello, Ms.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Marjorie Gibson; a sister, Ruby King and four brothers; Purvis, Burnell, Charles and M.L. Gibson.

Survivors are his son, George Dale Gibson of New Orleans, La.; a daughter and son-in-law, Rita Sue Watts and Robert J. Watts of Brookhaven; three grandchildren, Trent Watts and his wife, Jennifer, Adam Watts and Lindsey Gibson; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Ellie Watts, and a special companion of 14 years, Ernestine Tyrone.

Pallbearers will be Trent Watts, Adam Watts, Lindsey Gibson, Donald Tyrone, Kenneth Lee, Frank Lee and James Hood.

Memorials may be sent to Bethel Baptist Church or Riverside Baptist Church in Monticello.
