FLOWOOD – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars traveled northbound Tuesday afternoon to take on the Hartfield Academy Eagles in Flowood.
Behind a clutch pitching performance from sophomore left-hander William King in relief of starter Newt Riley, the Cougars captured a 5-3 victory over the home-standing Eagles.
King picked up the win recording eight strikeouts and issuing just one walk in 3 2/3 innings of work.
“William King stepped up and slammed the door on them tonight,” commented BA head coach Casey Edwards after the game. “He faced 11 batters, struck out eight and only had one ball put in play. That’s pretty good for your first Varsity outing.”
Offensively the Cougars were led by JP Jackson, Alex Smith, Steven Williams and Lamar Lang, each with singles on the evening.
In junior varsity action, BA pitcher Michael Fiorella recorded a nine strikeout game leading the BA Cougars to a 6 – 2 victory over the Hartfield Eagles.
Madison Smith led the way at the plate for the Cougars with two hits on the night. Taylor Freeny added a double to the hit column. Dylan Winborne, Lamar Lang and Connor Dorman had a single each for the Cougars.
The Cougars travel to Parklane Thursday afternoon for two games. JV action is set to begin at 5 pm.
