Lady Indians, Tiger eliminates Wesson

CRYSTAL SPRINGS – The Wesson Cobras traveled up Highway 51 to Crystal Springs for the opening night of the Mississippi High School Activities Association 2014 District 7-3A Division Tournament.
In the girls contest, the Lady Cobras fell to the Lady Indians of Hazlehurst High School with a final score of 49-34.
In boys’ action, the Wesson Cobras also were defeated 57-51 by the Crystal Springs High School Tigers in a close, aggressive game.
Tournament play will continue Wednesday night at Crystal Springs with the girl’s teams of Wilkinson County and Jefferson County tipping off at 6 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. the boy’s teams of Franklin County will play Jefferson County.
Hazlehurst 49, Wesson 34
The Lady Cobras lost to the Lady Indians Tuesday night in a hard 34-49 loss in district tournament play.
Junior forward Kayla Britt was the offensive leader for the Lady Cobras with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Senior Brandi McInnis was another top scorer by putting 10 points on the board and 6 rebounds. Freshman Aurianna Vaughn was the top defender for Wesson with 7 rebounds and a point total of 5. The Lady Cobras were 9/14 in free throw action.
The top player of the game for the Lady Indians was Roddreka Adams who pumped in game-high 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals. Danisha Davis was another top scorer with a point total of 15, 2 rebounds and 6 steals. Allyson Banks was another top defender with 9 rebounds and a point total of 8. The Lady Indians were 7/11 in free throw action.
Crystal Springs 57, Wesson 51
The Wesson Cobras were beaten in district tournament play by the Crystal Springs Tigers Tuesday night with a final score of 51-57.
Junior forward Dartavious Dixon was the top scorer for Wesson with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. The Cobras were 7/11 with Dixon and senior Tanner Allen shooting 100 percent from the free throw line. Allen chipped in with 6 points and had 1 steal.
The Tigers top player was senior Adarius Miles with 25 points and had 14 rebounds. Miles was 11/12 in free throws. Junior Zavion King contributed 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. The Tigers had an average of 17/20 in free throw action.
