West Lincoln roasts Eagles, East Marion surpasses Lady Bears

Junior forward Duane Marshall pumped in a game-high 31 points and had 7 assists to help West Lincoln remain undefeated in Region 7-2A action as the Bears roasted the East Marion Eagles 93-55 Tuesday night in Jack Case Gymnasium.

In girls’ action, the East Marion Lady Eagles provided a late second half surge to overpower the Lady Bears 44-37.

West Lincoln resumes district action Friday as they invade Liberty to battle the Amite County Trojans in a varsity doubleheader. The girls will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

West Lincoln celebrated Senior Night last night as friends and families gathered to show their support for their beloved senior players: Destiny Allen, Heather Moak, Bentley Sills, Karley Smith, Sam Bivens, Chase Buckles and Sid Griffin.

East Marion 44, W. Lincoln 37 

The Lady Bears (5-18, 3-5) and the Lady Eagles battled in a tough defensive contest in the first half as West Lincoln managed to secure a 20-17 lead at halftime.

In the second half, East Marion came out on fire as they soared back into the action outscoring the Lady Bears 15-7 in the third quarter to take a 32-27 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles (11-12, 4-4) managed to hold off West Lincoln’s late charge to escape with a huge district win.

Senior Destiny Allen was the offensive leader for the Lady Bears with 14 points. Heather Moak and Bentley Sills paced West Lincoln on the boards with 5 rebounds apiece.

“Our defense was good enough to win the game, but we struggled offensively,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “It is hard to win when we missed several easy baskets under the goal and numerous free throws that could help us get the victory.

Audriana Howard powered the Lady Eagles with a team-high 11 points and 5 rebounds. Amber Willis contributed 10 points.

W. Lincoln 93, E. Marion 55 

West Lincoln’s high-octane offense came out strong in the first quarter and set the tone early in this offensive showdown as the Bears roared to a 25-15 lead.

In the second quarter, East Marion charged back, but could not overcome West Lincoln’s strong offensive output as the Bears carried a 46-29 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Bears outscored the Eagles 30-11 in the third quarter to take a commanding 76-40 lead into the final frame and coast to the win.

Ronnie Edwards was the second leading scorer for the Bears with 19 points. Keshaun London chipped in 14 points. Sam Bivens and Javion Mackabee were the leaders on the Bears with 10 rebounds apiece. Bivens also had 6 blocked shots.

“In the last four minutes of the third quarter, we managed to turn up the pressure on East Marion which helped us get further out in front to secure the win,” said Young. “This was a good win for our seniors and I was very pleased to give anyone some playing time.”

Cornell Echols led the Eagles (7-14, 2-6) balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Latoddric Fortenberry provided 10 points

In junior varsity boys action, East Marion clipped West Lincoln 40-39.

Quincy Quinn was the top scorer for the Eagles with 15 points. Tyas Owens netted 14 points.

Jason Watts poured in a game-high 25 points to pace the Bears’ offense.
