Lady Bears defeat Dexter

TYLERTOWN – The West Lincoln Lady Bears captured their second win of the season with a 46-33 victory over the host Dexter Lady Bulldogs Friday afternoon in Dexter’s Holiday Tournament.
West Lincoln resumes action Tuesday at they prepare to visit Wesson to battle the Cobras and Lady Cobras for non-divisional contest. The girls will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

The Lady Bears (2-12) came out strong in the first quarter and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 12-2 and continued their strong surge in the second quarter to take a 22-13 lead into halftime.
In the second half, West Lincoln continued to play strong and managed to defend off Dexter’s rally by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 24-20.
Sophomore guard Layton Sills pumped in a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady Bears. Senior forward Heather Moak provided a double-double for West Lincoln with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Hanna Moak chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.
“This was a much needed win for the girls,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “The girls did a good job battling through a sloppy game. We managed to take control of the contest early and hit our shots. Overall, I was pleased to get the win, but we still need to improve on our free throw shooting.”
Tamyra Harvey was the offensive leader for the Lady Bulldogs (1-12) with 13 points and paced Dexter on the boards with eight rebounds. Kelronisha Jefferson contributed seven points. Alexious Miller helped on the boards with seven rebounds.
“The girls did a good job playing hard,” said Dexter coach Steven Fortenberry. “We are steadily improving a lot as a team.”
