Funeral services for Colleen Bass Carr of Philadelphia, Miss., are 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Union Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Mike Carr will officiate.
Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive, and on Saturday from 10 until 11 at the church.
Mrs. Carr, 86, died at her residence, Choctaw Residential Center, Dec. 17, 2013. She was born March 19, 1927 in Ozark, Ala., to the late Samuel E. Bass and Etta Lee Fralish Bass.
She was a former longtime resident of Union Church, where she worked as a clerk at the general store for over 30 years. She was a pastor’s wife having served along with her husband, the late Rev. Robert H. Carr, who pastored at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in the Union Church community for 40 years. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church as well as a lifetime member of the Eastern Star at Union Church. She loved people and was truly a people person. She enjoyed decorating cakes, such as birthday cakes and wedding cakes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, the Rev. Robert H. Carr; three sisters; three brothers; and one granddaughter.
She is survived by two sons, Steven H. Carr and wife, Gale of Thaxton; the Rev. Michael Carr and wife, Donna, of Philadelphia; one daughter, Toni McCoy and husband, Richard, of Pace, Fla.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott McCoy, Casey Carr, Jason Carr, Logan Carr, Brian Knippers, Aaron Welch and Joel Wall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Choctaw Residential Center, Piano Fund, 135 Hospital Circle, Choctaw, MS 39350.
