Two Brookhaven residents have been arrested in connection with the murder of a McComb man who was found dead on South Washington Street last week.
Another suspect is still being sought in connection with the murder, according to Brookhaven Chief of Police Bobby Bell.
Karal Sham Lyons, 28, of 401 Crooked Lane, has been charged with murder and Mashonna Shanta Dunnigan, 37, of 334 East Minnesota St, has been charged with accessory to murder after the fact by the Brookhaven Police Department.
Both charges stem from the death of Cornelius D. Porter, 28, of 1013 Douglas Drive, McComb.
Porter’s body was found last Wednesday by Brookhaven police somewhere between 4:30-5 p.m. in an extended stretch of road off South Washington St.
Lincoln County Deputy and Coroner’s Investigator John Riggs and officials with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation assisted withthe initial stage of the investigation.
Chief Bell confirmed the deceased man was Porter earlier this week, after investigators at the crime lab in Jackson were able to determine the body’s identity.
There were burns on the body, but further details were not available.
Lyons and Dunnigan are being held at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department jail.
Further information on the investigation were not available from Chief Bell at this time.
