Funeral services for Jimmie O. Burris are 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service with burial in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Burris passed away Nov. 6, 2013, at her home. She was born in Louisiana on May 25, 1916, to James and Louella Nettles Mathews. She was a retired postal clerk with the United States Postal Service and she was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
She was a member of Baker Book Club and Eastern Star. Her hobbies included cooking, fishing and needlepoint. She was a gracious hostess, having many friends and family for dinners and parties. She and her husband hosted annual fishing rodeos for grandchildren and friends at their lake.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jacob Hampton Burris; brothers, O.C. Mathews, Clint Mathews, Ed Mathews, Clyde Mathews, Jewell Mathews, Lish Mathews; and sisters, Allie Tucker, Ida Bess Parker, Lucy Davis, Clara Plitt and Denny Nettles.
She is survived by her son, Russell Winford Burris, and wife Evelyn; daughter, Ann Cagle, and husband Jim, seven grandchildren, Kimberly Lofton, Russell Burris Jr., Barry Burris, Todd Burris, James Cagle II, William Cagle and Chris Cagle; 17 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
