Funeral services for Rilla A. Smith, 94, of Wesson were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel, 849 Natchez Drive with burial in the Wesson Cemetery.
Visitation was held Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith died Oct. 31, 2013, at her home in Wesson.
She was a fourth generation, life-long member of Wesson Presbyterian Church. Over the years, she was involved in Women in the Church Ministries at the local and Presbytery levels. She was a member of the Ole Brook Chapter of the DAR and belonged to several local clubs. She was also a noted historian of the town of Wesson and the great-granddaughter of Capt. William Oliver, owner/manager of the Mississippi Mills located in Wesson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Ferris Anderson and wife, Sarah Rea Anderson, her husband, Lt. Col. C.C. Smith, (USAF Ret.); and her brother, Capt. E.F. Anderson (USN Ret.) and wife, Finetta.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, Hank Smith and wife, Paula, of Wesson; her daughter, Camille Johnston and husband, Bill, of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, Jennifer Meilstrup and husband, Duane, Emily Springfield and husband, Matt, Chistopher Smith and wife, Amy, Scott Brownlee and wife, Christy, Jennifer Chain, Kyle Brownlee and wife, Klancey, James Johnston and wife, Christy, and Charles Johnston; and 16 great-grandchildren.
