Funeral services for Billie Joy Laird James of Brookhaven are 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, at Mt. Zion Church of Christ, with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. James, 76, died Sept. 2, 2013 at her home. She was born in Mississippi on July 29, 1937 to Claude “Dock” Laird and Nettie Mae Montgomery Laird.

She worked as a hostess/cashier at Holiday Inn and was a member of Mt. Zion Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Golden Oldies and Homemakers Club.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Edgar “Buck” James; parents; sister, Claudell Laird Hodges; and a host of aunts and uncles.

Survivors are her daughter, Deborah Joy James Griffin and husband, Jackie; two grandchildren, Jaclyn Ashley Griffin and Alisha Nicole Griffin; nieces, Patricia Hodges Smith and husband, Mark Smith Sr., Linda Hodges Prestridge and husband, Bruce, and Peggy Hodges; and one nephew, Johnny Hodges.
