Lady Cobras capture two wins

BASSFIELD – The Wesson Lady Cobras managed to stay undefeated in Region 7-2A softball action after exterminating the Bassfield Lady Yellowjackets 18-0 Monday night.
In Friday’s softball action, Wesson surpassed the Tylertown Lady Chiefs 6-3.
The Lady Cobras (10-2, 4-0), coached by Jackie Johnson, continues region play Thursday. They invade Columbia to battle the East Marion Lady Eagles. Junior varsity action kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.
Wesson 18, Bassfield 0
Abbey Smith dominated the pitching circle and collected the win for Wesson gathering four strikeouts and allowing one walk.
Macie McQuage sparked the Lady Cobras’ offense with a home run and two singles. Kayla Britt, Abbey Smith and Sarah Robinson fueled the flames with a double and a single each. Hannah Brown and Ashley Newman hit safely.
In JV action, The Lady Cobras edged the Lady Yellowjackets 8-6.
Mary Beth Munn directed Wesson’s offense with a home run. Kaitlyn Smith contributed a double. Hitting safely were Amber Brinson, Harmoni Ashley, Abby Meredith, Skye Jones and Carrie McSweyn.
Wesson 6, Tylertown 3
Abbey Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cobras with three strikeouts and three walks. Angel Thornton suffered the defeat for the Lady Chiefs with five strikeouts and one walk.
Tyler Smith, Abby Smith, Robinson, Brown and McQuage were the offensive leaders for Wesson with double each. Britt hit a single.
The Lady Chiefs’ offense was lead by Alisha Fortneberry, Chanice Myers and Paige Harvey with a single apiece.
