Wolves grind Hinds 12-2 in second game

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolfpack recorded a 12-2 victory over Hinds in five innings in Tuesday’s nightcap as they capitalized on 10 Eagle errors and eight walks.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Caleb Upton doubled to right. Austin Hartzog drove Upton home on a RBI single to left field.

The Wolfpack exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second. Christopher Perry drew a leadoff walk. With one out, Ryan Young and Dominic Savage drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Perry then scored on a wild pitch. Konnor Burke was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Caleb Dugas’s grounder was misplayed by the shortstop allowing Savage and Young to score giving the Wolfpack a 3-1 lead. Jonathan Santana’s two-run double to right cleared the bases and pushed Co-Lin’s lead to 5-1.
Co-Lin added four more runs in the bottom of the third courtesy of three Eagle errors. Savaged reached second on an error. Burke was hit by a pitch. Dugas’s sacrifice fly to center advanced Savage to third. Savage scored on a passed ball. Santana reached on an error as Burke scored. Matt Smith reached on an error that allowed Santana to score and the Wolfpack took a commanding 8-1 lead.
Hinds added a run in the top of the fifth inning. Akiko Thompson led off the inning with a single to center. Shortstop Beau Wallace drew a walk. Conner Goodspeed’s sacrifice fly to right advanced the runners. Thompson scored in Justin Smith’s ground out to short closing the gap to 8-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dugas led off with an infield single. Santana reach on an error. Matt Smith’s sacrifice fly allowed Dugas to score. Pinch hitter Julio Rivera singled to right field and advanced to second on an error and plating another run. Perry and Philip Lott were hit by a pitch loading the bases. Young’s fielder’s choice to short allowed Rivera to score to increase the Wolfpack lead to 11-2. Perry scored on an error to end the game at 12-2 in five innings.
Dugas got the win for the Wolfpack, allowing two runs, scattering five hits, striking out four and walking three in five innings.
Chase Cater took the loss for Hinds. He walked four in .2 innings of work. Also seeing action were Kirk Thornton (3ER, 2H, 2BB, 1K, 1 inning), Clyde Kendrick (0ER, 0H, 2BB, 2K, 1.2 innings) and Grady Turman (2ER, 2H, 0BB, 0K, 1.1 innings).
The Wolfpack only had four hits in the game. Santana led the way with a double (2RBIs). Adding support with a single apiece were Dugas (1RBI), Smith (1RBI), and Rivera.
For Hinds, Upton doubled and singled. Thompson, Goodspeed, and Hartzog each had a single.
