Lady Cats return to Big House

The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats have punched their ticket to go to the Big House, a.k.a. Mississippi Coliseum, for the third year in a row.
BC proved to be the dominant Bobcat Friday night,crushing the Sebastopol Lady Bobcats 73-42 in the semifinals of the Girls Class 1A South State Tournament in R.L “Bob” Calhoun Gymnasium.
“I’m extremely proud of the girls,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “They played really hard and did exactly what was needed to get the win. We are excited to be returning to the Coliseum for the third straight year.”
In the other girls semifinals, the Hinds AHS Lady Bulldogs landed a berth to play in Jackson as they rallied to defeat the McAdams Lady Bulldogs 54-43.
The Lady Cats and the Lady Bulldogs of Hinds AHS will represent the South 1A girls as they battle the North State opponents Ashland and H.W. Byers in the MHSAA State Tournament that begins Friday, March 1, and runs through Saturday, March 9.
Bogue Chitto lost 69-52 to Hinds AHS Saturday night and will play Byers Friday morning at 9 a.m.
Bogue Chitto 73, Sebastopol 42
BC (27-6) continued their strong performance in Day 2 of the tournament as they came out energized and set the tone of the game.
The Lady Cats used their speed and defensive pressure to seize control of the first quarter with 28-10 lead.
In the second quarter, Sebastopol (20-9) fought back and outscored BC 19-16 but the Lincoln County-based Lady Cats managed to take a 44-29 lead into halftime.
In the second half, BC continued to overpower Sebastopol as they thumped the Lady Bobcats 29-13 to seal the win.
Freshmen forward Christian Black sparked BC’s charge with a game-high double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds. Mattie Avants fueled the flames with 12 points, 3 steals and 5 assists. Zariah Matthews and Earlnesheia Dillon contributed 11 points apiece. Senior guard Adrienne Wallace dished out 10 assists.
“We came out ready to play,” said Terrell. “The girls executed really well, offensively and defensively, throughout the game.”
Alexis Burks and Abby Winstead were the offensive leaders for Sebastopol with 14 points apiece.
“Great game,” said Sebastopol coach Casey Madden. “Bogue Chitto came out ready to play and we did not. Overall, we had a great season. The girls worked and fought hard all year long. I am looking forward to next season as we only lose one senior.”
Hinds AHS 54, McAdams 43
In a close, tough and physical battle between Bulldogs, Hinds AHS (21-6) managed to overpower McAdams in the fourth quarter snd escape with the win.
Octavia Barnes directed Hinds’ offense with a game-high 21 points. Iesha Dixon netted 12 points.
McAdams (15-13) was led in scoring by Chelsea Kilbert with 11 points.
