Brookhaven authorities arrested a man Saturday night and charged him with a Friday evening armed robbery at the Happyfood Mart, said Assistant Police Chief Bobby Bell.
A lone male armed with a handgun entered the Happyfood Mart on First Street at approximately 7:45 p.m. Friday evening and requested money from a female cashing, according to Bell.
“She opened the cash register, and he retrieved the money from the cash register,” Bell said.
Saturday night, Brookhaven police arrested Antoine Owens for allegedly carrying out the burglary.
Ownes, no age or address unavailable, has been charged with a single count of armed robbery.
No shots were fired, and no one was injured in the robbery. The amount of money stolen was unavailable.
There were multiple customers in the store during the robbery, so Bell said numerous witnesses were available.
Police don’t currently suspect the involvement of anyone else in the robbery.
As of Saturday night, the handgun used in the robbery hadn’t been recovered, Bell said.
