West Lincoln Bears ease past Hazlehurst

HAZLEHURST – The West Lincoln Bears overcame a 40-point explosion by Hazlehurst guard Tre’juan White and escaped the Indians with a 73-67 Tuesday night victory. The bears got 19 points and 13 rebounds from Lucas Burris.
In the girls game, Hazlehurst prevailed 45-41, led by Jenny Joiner’s 16 points.
West Lincoln hosts Piney Woods Friday night for a Region 7-1A test. Hazlehurst visits Brookhaven.
The Bears (12-1) got 17 points from sophomore guard Duane Marshall and 13 from Darrius Clark. Sam Bivens grabbed 7 rebounds. Jarred Case had 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
“It was good to get everybody back because were have had so much sickness and injuries,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “I thought we took control in the third quarter and made some key plays on offense..
“Number 4 (White) shot the lights out.”
White sacked 7 treys in the loss. Reginald Jones chipped in 15 points.
The Bears trailed 36-32 at halftime. They outscored the Indians 22-14 in the third quarter and led 54-50.
The Lady Bears (6-7) got 15 points and 7 rebounds from senior guard Katie Hester. Tamasha Buckley scored 10 points and Destiny Allen grabbed 9 rebounds.
“We battled pretty tough throughout the game but we missed too many free throws,” said Coach Young. “We turned the ball over at crucial times in the fourth quarter.”
The Lady Indians trailed 24-22 at halftime. They got 11 points from Audrenna Fuller.
