BA levels Oak Forest

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and LadyCougars were victorious Tuesday night as they swept the Oak ForestAcademy Yellow Jackets in basketball action at John R. GrayGymnasium.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Cougars (11-1) crushed the LadyJackets 59-27.
In boys’ action, the Cougars (7-1) exterminated Oak Forest71-30.
Brookhaven Academy returns to action Friday as they travel toFranklinton, La. to battle the Bowling Green Buccaneers for fivegames starting at 3:30 p.m.

The Brookhaven Lady Cougars continued to show off their strongdefensive pressure last night as they quickly roared to a 24-7 leadto set the tone early in the first quarter and coasted to thewin.
BA’s senior duo paced the Lady Cougars offensively as Laura BethWright pumped in a game-high 20 points. Terah Winborne contributed17 points. Carey Crozier and Wright were the leaders on the boardswith 6 rebounds apiece.
“The girls played really well,” said BA coach Ginger Duease. “Wehad another good first quarter, we were able to start strong andcontinued to play aggressive in the game.”
Meaghan Durand was the offensive leader for the Lady Jackets with 8points. Lindsey Neal added 5 points.

The boys’ game was similar to the girls as the Cougars managed tooutplay and outhustle Oak Forest throughout the game. BA led 41-14at halftime.
Everyone on the Cougar roster contributed points to grabbed the winas Brock Smith led the attack with a game-high 16 points andgrabbed 5 rebounds. Gage Posey continued the onslaught with 11points.
“We are slowly coming together as a team,” said BA coach DaleWatts. “We are still missing too many easy shots on transition.Overall, the guys played hard but we still need to continue to workon our chemistry.”
Trent Burns was the only Jacket to score in double figures for OakForest as he led the team with 10 points.
In junior high action, Brookhaven Academy captured two wins overOak Forest. The Lady Cougars edged the Lady Jackets 33-28 as BeccaHarvey and Allison Livingston led BA with 10 points apiece.
Oak Forest was led in scoring by Sarah Neal with 12 points.
In the boys’ game, the Cougars stomped the Jackets 44-34 as PeytonHood pumped in a game-high 20 points for BA. Matt Byrd contributed12 points.
Bradley Brumfield and Tyler Hasson poured in 10 points apiece forOak Forest.
