Graveside services for Ermer Dean HodgesThurman, of Sevierville, Tenn., formerly of Bogue Chitto, areFriday, Nov. 18, at Little Bahala Cemetery near Wesson, followingvisitation at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Jackson Street from 10a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

    Mrs. Thurman, 90, died Nov. 12, 2011, at LeConte Medical Center inSevierville. She was born in Bogue Chitto on June 20, 1921, to RosaRoberts Hodges Greer and Houston Harvey Hodges.

    She was resident of Wellington Place Assisted Living inSevierville. She was an active church member of the local SouthernBaptist Church wherever she lived and enjoyed singing in the choirand teaching Sunday School. She served as president of the Women’sMissionary Union of Gentilly Baptist Church in New Orleans. Whileliving in Jacksonville, Fla., she became an avid golfer and pursuedthis hobby with great passion. While winning many trophies, hermost notable achievement was a “hole-in-one” at age 76 at LakeTansi in Crossville, Tenn. She loved hand quilting and made manybeautiful quilts for her family.

    Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 53 years,Curtis Wade Thurman; sister, Lexie Hodges Price; brothers, HermanHodges, James Hodges and Harvey Lamar Hodges; and grandson, WadeLee McEwen.

    Survivors are her daughters, Myra Jean Vinson and husband Roger, ofSevierville, Tenn., and Sandra T. McEwen, of Irmo, S.C.; threegranddaughters, Regina McEwen Fields, of Irmo, S.C., Amber VinsonAdams and husband, Dan, and Virginia Vinson Hays and husbandEugene, both of Jacksonville, Fla; three great-grandsons, EliotWade Fields, of Irmo, S.C., Nathan Daniel Adams and Noah VinsonAdams, both of Jacksonville, Fla; and numerous nieces andnephews.
