In a photograph, the sail of a partiallysunken sailboat thrusts above the water line. In a painting acrossthe room, children eat watermelons on a beach.
Those are just two of the scenes currently on display at theLincoln County Public Library’s art gallery of local artists. Thereare more: about 60 more.
“I think we have a great show this year,” said Caroline Kluge, chairperson of the Lincoln County Art Council.
The gallery displays the entries in the annual Lincoln County ArtShow. Those entries come from a variety of mediums, includingwatercolors, oils, photography, drawing and sculpture.
Some works feature scenes and people that could be local to righthere in Lincoln County. Others feature more exotic scenery.
“I had one artist ask me if their work had to feature somethingfrom the area,” said Kluge. “But it doesn’t.”
Kluge hopes everyone who comes to visit will find something theylike, whether they have an eye for the near or the far.
Kluge had a busy Saturday, taking people’s entries as they came inat the library and hanging those entries in the gallery, which wasa trial and error process.
It was one she didn’t do alone. Paintings were shifted andrearranged throughout the day to arrange everything in a way foundsatisfactory.
A reception will be held for all artists with work in the show onOct. 13 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The gallery will be available forpublic viewing until Oct. 29.
The work will be judged and prizes issued for the top winners ineach category. The best of show winner and best of each categorywinner winners will receive monetary prizes. Awards will be givento the second, third and honorable mention winners of eachcategory.
The show will be judged by Bob Pennebaker, the chairman of thevisual arts department and associate professor of art at BelhavenUniversity. Pennebaker has been an active Mississippi artist withmany gallery exhibitions and presentations in the state, includingat the Meridian Museum of Art.
