Four Co-Lin teams earn NJCAA Academic honors

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community Collegeenjoyed an outstanding season on and off the field during the2010-11 school year.

    Four Wolfpack teams – the men’s and women’s tennis teams, the LadyWolves softball and soccer teams and the Wolfpack golf teamreceived NJCAA Academic Team of the Year status.

    “This is a tremendous accomplishment by our student-athletes,” saidCo-Lin President Dr. Ronnie Nettles. “Our teams and ourstudent-athletes are recognized year after year for their effortsin the classroom. It is a tribute to them and to our coaches. Wetake tremendous pride in our student’s academic and athleticsuccess.”

    The men’s tennis team, coached by Mike McIntyre, recorded a 3.47grade point average placing them No. 2 in the nation. The Wolfpackhave finished No. 1 in 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2008; No. 2 in 2004,2006, 2009 and 2011; and No. 3 in 2003

    The Lady Wolves tennis team had a 3.54 GPA placing them No. 4 inthe Nation. The Lady Wolves, coached by Holli Pepper, have finishedin the top 12 for 13 consecutive seasons.

    The Lady Wolves softball team cracked the Top 10 for the first timein school history placing No. 6 with a 3.43 GPA. The golf team hada 3.18 GPA and the women’s soccer team had a 3.10 GPA. Allen Kentserves as coach for softball. Ronny Ross coaches the golf team andTrey Woodham coaches the Lady Wolves soccer team.

    Individually, three Co-Lin student-athletes had a 4.0 GPA, whichallowed them to receive the NJCAA’s Pinnacle Award for AcademicExcellence. Receiving Pinnacle Awards for Academic Achievement arewomen’s tennis player Nicole Magee of Magee, baseball player ConnerOakes of Monticello and men’s tennis player Blaine Roberts of BogueChitto.

    Receiving NJCAA Superior Academic Achievement Awards for 3.8-3.99GPA are women’s tennis player Katie Beth Case of Brookhaven andmen’s basketball player TJ Kosile of Lagos, Nigeria.

    Lady Wolves softball player Bethany Pinkston of Brusly, LA,received the NJCAA Exemplary Academic Achievement Award with a GPAof 3.66.

    Since 2000, Co-Lin has produced 89 Academic Achievement Awardstudent-athletes.
