Eubanks to direct Enterprise

Casey Eubanks was officially  approved for the position of headfootball coach and athletic director at Enterprise during Monday’smeeting of the Lincoln County School Board. Eubanks is a Mize HighSchool graduate.

    “We are real excited about having him on our staff,” saidEnterprise principal Shannon Eubanks who is not related to the newcoach. “He has the pedigree to do a good job. We were fortunate toget him at this late date. We are excited about the future.”

    Coach Eubanks is a 1992 graduate of Mize and played for CoachCharles Lee. He played fullback at Mississippi College. Hegraduated from Southern Miss with a degree in coaching and sportsadministration. He obtained his master’s degree in secondaryeducation from William Carey University.

    Eubanks, 37, is single. He also will serve as the school’s athleticdirector.

    “I’m excited about the coaching opportunity,” said Eubanks. “Wehave an opportunity build a team and get the community excitedabout it.

    “If I can come in here and get them to the playoffs, I’ll behappy,” he added.

    He will serve as junior high coach and start the school’s firstpowerlifting program after the football season has beencompleted.

    He will teach social studies. He is certified to teach history andphysical education.

    Eubanks began his coaching career at Hattiesburg, working for CoachDoug Merchant. He later coached at Simpson Central and was anoffensive coordinator at Richland. He learned the spread offense atLouisville as a junior varsity coach. He became offensivecoordinator at Mt. Olive in 2008, as the Pirates reached the SouthState championship before losing to Puckett.

    Eubanks said he closely followed the San Francisco 49ers as ateenager.  “I grew up beinga huge San Francisco fan. You have to have lots of talent to runthat California offense.

    “I like the no-huddle offense they ran at Louisville,” addedEubanks. He said Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College runs asimilar offense. “It’s based out of the triple option and the run.You don’t have to pass the ball every down.”

    Summer workouts are underway at Enterprise. Eubanks said from 25-30players have been meeting three times a week. “The kids are comingout and doing a good job. They are coming to the weight room, doingtheir sprints and cardios.

    “I want to get the kids in the playoffs and build a tradition.”

    The Jackets will be working under a new head coach for the fourthtime in three years. In 2010, Wayne Rogers was replaced by JoshGarrett who coached the Jackets to a 3-8 record last season beforedeparting for an assistant baseball coaching job at West Jones.Lawrence County assistant coach Jaymie Palmer was hired last monthat Enterprise but instead elected to take a teaching position atBrookhaven High.

    Enterprise kicks off its season Aug. 19, at Salem. The Jackets areRegion 6-2A members. They got their first-ever region win lastseason, beating Hinds AHS.
