Co-Lin Foundation establishes Bobby O’Quinn scholarship

WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Foundation isaccepting donations to a fund in order to establish a scholarshipin memory of Bobby J. O’Quinn, a former student who died during aneffort to save two young girls from drowning in Okhissa Lake inFranklin County in April 2011.
O’Quinn, 18, had been a member of the Co-Lin Wolfpack football teamin the fall of 2010. He was a defensive lineman for the FranklinCounty Bulldogs in high school and was the Mississippi High SchoolActivities Association Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year in2009.
O’Quinn, who reportedly could not swim, went into the water to helpin efforts to save the young girls who were wading and had venturedtoo far into the lake. One of the young girls also drowned.
The scholarship is to be known as the Bobby O’Quinn MemorialScholarship and would go to an entering freshman student at Co-Linin either a career-technical or academic program.
Donations should be made to the Co-Lin Foundation designated to the”O’Quinn scholarship” and mailed to Co-Lin Foundation, P. O. Box649, Wesson, MS 39191.
The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Athletic Department will alsoaward a Bobby O’Quinn Courage Award beginning in 2012. The awardwill be given to a Wolfpack football player who most embodies BobbyO’Quinn’s spirit, leadership and courage.
The award will be presented at the college’s annual Awards Day heldin April of each year. A permanent plaque will hang in the FrankPitts Field House with the names of the recipients.
