Gordon Lae Alexander, 87, of McComb, died June 1, 2011, atMississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born May 13,1924, in McComb. He was the son of Milton L. and V’Ella DayAlexander. He was the retired shop foreman for Illinois CentralRailroad and was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. Hewas a lifelong member of East McComb Baptist Church, and now, NewHeights Baptist Church.

He was a member of McComb City Lodge #382 where he served as pastmaster and was a member of Queen Esther Chapter #4 OES where heserved as past worthy patron. He was also a member of the Knightsof the York Cross of Honor, Shriners Wahabi Temple and the Miss-LouDay Lily club.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Theo LavernAlexander and Jonnie Lee Alexander Boyd; two brothers-in-law,Thurman Boyd and Clyde Boone; and special relatives, Edwin andGrace Etheridge and Gene Varnell.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen Moak Alexander, ofMcComb; one son, Michael Gordon Alexander, of Pensacola, Fla.; onedaughter and son-in-law, Sherry and the Rev. Tommy Purvis, ofWesson; one sister, V. Grace Boone, of Poplarville; fivegrandchildren and their spouses, Mary “Missy” and Doug Walton ofFirestone, Colo., Robyn and Joseph Carbery, of Roxie, Melanie P.and Chad Moak of Bogue Chitto, and Dean and Leslie Alexander andPaul Greer, of Brookhaven; nine great-grandchildren, Alexander”Alex” Carbery, Bailey Carbery and Cara Carbery, of Roxie, ColbeyMoak, Chanie Moak and Saylor Moak, of Bogue Chitto, and LaineyGreer, Landon Greer and Carson Greer, of Brookhaven; specialcousins, Howard Alexander, of Jayess, Marlene Varnell, of Tupeloand Judy Dillon, of McComb; and many other cousins and nieces andnephews that loved Mr. Alexander.

Visitation is Friday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb from9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Tommy Purvis, RickKennedy and J. Frank Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hollywoodcemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Illinois CentralRetiree club.
