Wesson clinches region

The Wesson Cobras swept the Enterprise Yellow Jackets to capturethe Region 6-2A crown Tuesday night. The Cobras won the first game14-0 and the nightcap 12-0 in district baseball action atEnterprise.
“I am extremely proud of the guys,” said Wesson coach Seth Lofton.”We were ready to play this series. We knew coming in what weneeded to do and the guys went out to do it in a big way.”
The Cobras (15-10, 10-2) have secured the No. 1 seed in Region 6and receive a bye in the opening round of the MHSAA state baseballplayoffs. Wesson will battle the winner of theLake/Enterprise-Clarke series.
The Jackets (11-13, 6-6) will enter the playoffs as the No. 3 seedof Region 6. Enterprise will visit the Yellow Jackets of BassfieldFriday for one game in a best-of-three series. Game time isundetermined.

Gib Britt provided a strong pitching performance for the Cobraswith six strikeouts and two walks. Garrett Greer suffered thesetback for the Jackets with no strikeouts and five walks.
Pat Boone produced the offensive spark to lead Wesson as he belteda 2-run homer in the fourth inning. Gage Wilson contributed adouble and two singles. Matt Smith fueled the flames with threesingles. Gib Britt hit two singles. Alex Smith had a double.
Wesson plated eight runs in the first and lead 10-0 in thesecond.
Anthony Parrett was the offensive leader for the Jackets with twosingles. Hitting safely were Garrett Greer and Chance Owens.
“Wesson outplayed us in both game,” said Enterprise coach CassBrister. “Our approach at the plate was not good and we did notplay defense very well.”

Wilson continued Wesson’s great pitching performance in the seriesas he collected two strikeouts and two walks in a 1-hit effort.Cody White adsorbed the loss for Enterprise with two strikeouts andfive walks.
Cullen Greer conducted the offensive firepower for Wesson with athree-run homer in the second inning and a double. Wilson continuedthe ammunition with a double and a single. Matt Smith, Alex Smithand Boone smashed a double apiece. Hitting safely were PaxtonCupit, Kyle Cross and Jacob Fischer.
Owens got the only hit for Enterprise in the second game, which wasa single.
