Bogue Chitto bags big triumph over Wesson

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats walloped the WessonCobras 8-2 in baseball action Saturday on Stan Long Field.
“This was a big win for us to help us get ready for the playoffs,”said Bogue Chitto coach Jody Britt. “Brice Roberts pitched anoutstanding game for us. I am proud of the guys for fighting hardto win the game.”
The Bobcats (14-6, 3-2) return to action Monday as they travel toVicksburg to battle the St. Aloysius Flashes for a division test.Game time is at 5 p.m. for the junior varsity, followed by thevarsity at 7 p.m.
The Cobras (8-10, 4-2) will be in action Tuesday, hosting thePuckett Wolves for a big district matchup. Junior varsity begins at5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.
Bogue Chitto 8, Wesson 2
The Bobcats exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning for fiveruns to break open a close game as Kevin Brothern smashed a two-runhomer over the left field fence to cap off the rally.
Brice Roberts was the winning pitcher for Bogue Chitto with threestrikeouts and three walks. Gib Britt adsorbed the setback forWesson with nine strikeouts and five walks.
Michael Martin and Roberts contributed a triple and a single apieceto help lead the Bobcats offensively. Hitting safely were ColtonMcClendon, Hunter Ginn, Reid Bales and Zach Avants.
Wesson was led offensively with singles from Kyle Cross, MattSmith, Alex Smith, Trey Chassion and Jacob Fischer.
“Give Bogue Chitto credit, they did a good job hitting the ball,”said Wesson coach Seth Lofton. “We did not do a good job puttingthe ball into play especially when we had runners on base.”
The Bobcats took a 2-0, first inning lead. They led 3-1 in thefourth.
