Newton rips Enterprise

NEWTON – The Newton Tigers flexed their muscles as theyeliminated the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 92-55 Tuesday night in theMHSAA South State 2A boys’ tournament.

The Jackets conclude their season with a record of 6-26.

The Tigers (27-2), coached by Crandal Porter, will host the SouthState 2A boys tournament. Newton will face the winner of the BaySprings/Bassfield game at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Senior guard Thomas Allen pumped in a game-high 20 points to leadthe Jackets. Sam Furr contributed a double-double with 13 pointsand 11 rebounds. Nathan Foster added 10 points.

“My guys played very hard and gave a good effort like they havedone all season long,” said Enterprise coach John Knight. “Newtonhas a very good, athletic team.”

Chris Turner and Dennis Miles knocked down a team-high 19 pointsapiece to lead the Tigers. Dillian Hawkins netted 10 points as theTigers took a 49-25 halftime lead.
