St. Patrick kicks Cobras out of 1A/2A/3A playoffs

BILOXI — The Wesson Cobras (7-5-1) traveled Tuesday and took onthe St. Patrick Fighting Irish in round one of the Class 1A/2A/3Astate soccer playoffs. It was a good outing for the Cobras in theirfirst playoff appearance, but they suffered a disappointing 2-0loss.
St. Patrick scored two goals quickly but the stubborn Cobra defenseheld off the skilled Fighting Irish attack for the remainder of thegame. Wesson junior Jacob Tarver had an exceptional game as goalie,blocking numerous shot attempts by the Irish.
Returning to play for the Cobras for the first time this season wasjunior forward, Austin Graham who suffered a knee injury in thefall playing football. Graham was released by his doctors on Mondayto join his team.
Other Cobra teammates seeing playoff action were seniors GageAshley, Aren Case, Emilio Collado, Tony DelCid, Warren Furches, andWalker Parrish; juniors Tony Bates, Alex Berry, Jace McCardle,Daniel Nasif, and Josh Smith; sophomores Steve DelCid, Jay Haynes,Brandon Nettles, and Ryan Spear; and freshman Luis Mellado.
Fifth year Wesson coach Ricky Gunter, also has a talented group ofreserve players who are expected to contribute to the team nextyear.
