LC Cougars invade Crystal Springs; Indians entertain Franklin County

The Lawrence County Cougars travel to face the Crystal SpringsTigers Friday night for a big Region 7-4A test. Kickoff is 7p.m.
In other area football action, Franklin County invades Hazlehurst,McComb is at Wayne County, Port Gibson entertains North Pike andSouth Pike hosts Columbia.
Lawrence County (2-5, 0-1), coached by Mike Davis, fell to theNorth Pike Jaguars 40-14 last Friday. Crystal Springs (1-6, 0-1)lost 36-14 to South Pike in another division test.

In the loss to North Pike, Nicholas McDonald led theMonticello-based Cougars offense with 18 carries for 131 yards. Healso completed 3 of 7 passes for 37 yards and two interceptions.Alexander led the receivers with 3 catches for 37 yards.
Franklin County (3-4, 1-0), coached by Ricky O’Quinn, faces a toughRegion 7-3A test Friday when the Bulldogs travel to face theHazlehurst Indians. The Meadville-based Bulldogs were victorious intheir homecoming, a 42-20 win over Wilkinson County.
In the win over Wilkinson, FC junior linebacker Jeremy Hunt led thedefense with eight tackles. Jimmy Barnes added seven tackles. AndyMorris was credited with six hits, a sack and forced two fumbles.James Green and Calvin Robinson each had an interception.
Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by Jay Davis with 4-of-7 passingfor 130 yards and two TDs. He added three carries on the ground for38 yards.
Hazlehurst (4-2, 0-1) suffered a tough 26-24 loss to the TylertownChiefs last week. The Indians, coached by Todd McDaniel, are set tobattle their rivals the Franklin County Bulldogs, Fridaynight.
“Franklin County is a tough, aggressive team,” said McDaniel. “Itwill be a tough and physical game for both teams. I hope that wecan come away with the victory.”

In the loss to Tylertown, Leviticus Cain led Hazlehurst’s defensewith 9 tackles. Demond Tucker and Jonkil Skipper provided 7 stopsapiece.
Cornelius Crump led the ground attack for Hazlehurst with 8 carriesfor 112 yards. Kenneth Coleman completed 4 of 7 passes for 55yards. Jamerius James led all receivers with one reception for 51yards.
McComb (3-3, 0-2) was shut out 24-0 by the top-ranked West JonesMustangs last week. The Tigers, coached by Malcom Jones, will be onthe road this week for another division test against 5A powerhouseWayne County (5-1, 2-0).
In the loss to West Jones, Lamarvin Ashley alternated betweenquarterback and running back to lead McComb’s offense. He rushed 19times for a team-best 29 yards and was 3-of-11 passing for 33yards.
North Pike (6-1, 1-0), coached by Chris Smith, is coming off a big40-14 win over the Lawrence County Cougars. The Jaguars will travelto face the Port Gibson Blue Wave for another Region 7-4Atest.
Port Gibson (5-2, 1-0) knocked off the Columbia Wildcats 13-7 lastweek.
In the win over Lawrence County, the Jaguars got a monster nightfrom senior quarterback Revis Butler who ran for 220 yards and fourtouchdowns, and threw for 93 yards and another score.
South Pike (1-5, 1-0) hosts Columbia this week for anotherdivisional test. Last Friday, Coach Willie Brown’s Magnolia-basedEagles handed the Crystal Spring Tigers a 36-14 loss and got theirfirst win of the season.
Columbia (2-5, 0-1) lost to Port Gibson 36-14 last week.
