William Wallace ‘Bill’ Godbold III

Funeral services for William Wallace “Bill” Godbold III, ofBrookhaven, are 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, at Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service Chapel, with a private graveside service to followat Godbold Family Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service atthe funeral home.

Mr. Godbold, 83, died Sept. 11, 2010, at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VAMedical Center in Jackson. He was born in Brookhaven on June 27,1927, to William Wallace Godbold II and Myrtis Frances SumrallGodbold.

He was a former mayor of Brookhaven, having served in office from1965-1973, 1985-1993 and 1997-2004. He was a member of St. Francisof Assisi Catholic Church in Brookhaven and was a United StatesNavy veteran of World War II.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his stepchildren, Fred”Butch” Melton and Sandy Melton.

Survivors are his wife, Linda Case Godbold; his son, Hugh BeachamGodbold; his daughters, Betty Godbold Conerly, Stacy Godbold PriceFressell and Georgia Godbold McGee; his stepsons, Kelly Melton andKevin Melton; his grandchildren, Gabriel Godbold, Summer PriceMoore, Hooper Glynn Price, Alex Godbold, Stormie Alexis Godbold,Shelby Dare McGee, Forrest McGee and Brendan Melton; and hisgreat-grandchild, Vander Wallace Moore.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bill GodboldMemorial Fund at Bank of Brookhaven.
