Tip leads to arrest in burglary

A Brookhaven man is behind bars, charged with burglary and grandlarceny, after allegedly stealing guns and other items from a homeon Crooked Lane Monday.
Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said Jokari C. Caldwell, 20,of 905 East Cherokee St., was arrested Tuesday night after aheads-up tip from a citizen who saw something that lookedamiss.
“A citizen saw some things that didn’t look in order, items in hishand, and took the initiative to call the police department,”Henderson said. “I appreciate that.”
Henderson said the homeowners were not at home around 9-10 a.m.Monday, the time Caldwell allegedly broke into the residence.Henderson said he took guns and other items that were later mostlyrecovered by police.
“We’ve recovered all but two pieces, he had taken them to anotherlocation,” Henderson said. “We knew we had recovered it, but hedidn’t.”
Police are looking for a second suspect in the crime as well, thechief said.
In addition to the Crooked Lane burglary, Henderson said, there wasa break-in on West Warren Avenue and South Jackson Street Sunday,where an intruder entered a home and didn’t realize the homeownerwas there. He fled when he realized he was not alone.
“The homeowner didn’t know the person,” he said.
The intruder was a black male, about 5’10”, wearing a hoodedsweatshirt, Henderson said.
