Favorite hero’s makeover not so wonderful

You may not have heard, but Wonder Woman is getting amakeover.
The DC Comic book heroine has worn the same get-up since she wascreated some 69 years ago.
The Wonder Woman character has always been a favorite of mine. I’venever been much of a comic book lover, but I did love the oldtelevision show featuring Lynda Carter.
As a preteen I was in awe of her as Wonder Woman. I wanted thegolden lasso and the golden bracelets that deflected bullets. Ieven wanted the invisible airplane she flew around in.
The “Wonder Woman” series ran from 1975 until 1979 and I canhonestly say, I probably didn’t miss a one.
As female superheroes go, there just weren’t that many in the late’70s. She was setting a precedent for those who were to follow inher footsteps.
In the original series she was Princess Diana, a young Amazon womanwho would stay young forever. It just so happens that a World WarII plane piloted by Major Steve Trevor crashes on her island,Paradise Island. Diana learns about Trevor’s fight and war with theNazis, and subsequently rescues him and returns him home.
The Amazon nation decides to send one of their own into the “real”world to assess the threats and to help in the fight against theNazis.
Secretly, Diana joins the WAVES (Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps) soshe can be near Trevor, who works in Military Intellegience.
Diana would change into Wonder Woman when time came for her to savethe day unbeknownst to those who knew her.
Wonder Woman had amazing powers. She had superhuman strength, shecould fly among other things. She also had cool toys, like theLasso of Truth, which she would use when the bad guys were notbeing cooperative.
She had it all. It is no wonder that her name was WonderWoman.
I find it very amazing that after 69 years, the people at DC Comicsare giving her a makeover. She still looks great in herbullet-breasted bustier and tights.
They are giving her an edgier look with a short bolero jacket,skin-tight navy blue pants with matching boots.
Her bracelets have been modified and are much bigger and resemblegloves, rather than bracelets.
Wonder Woman’s wardrobe isn’t the only thing changing – so is herbackground story. She will no longer be the Amazon princess raisedon Paradise Island; her back story now says she was smuggled awayas a child while her Amazon sisters were all murdered.
That’s quite a departure from the original storyline. I canunderstand wanting to bring a character into the 21st century, butjeez Louise!
I’ll never be able to look at my favorite comic book character inthe same light. Wonder Woman won’t be the Wonder Woman I remember, and that makes me sad.
And how was your week?
