Downtown shooting victim Eva Pullen, 85, is still in a lot ofpain but is a fighter, said her granddaughters Amy Stephenson andAshley Pullen on Tuesday.

Eva Pullen was shot several times on Saturday just before noonin the parking lot between the Brookhaven Lincoln County Chamber ofCommerce and the Fred’s dollar store after surrendering her purseto two assailants.

Brothers David and Quincy Walker have been arrested and chargedwith aggravated assault and armed robbery in the incident. They areboth currently being held in Lincoln County Jail on $250,000 cashbond. Quincy Walker, however, is also being held for theMississippi Department of Corrections, so he cannot bond out.

Eva Pullen’s granddaughters said doctors are working to wean herslowly off her pain medications.

“They’ve moved her to her own room and she’s doing good, justhurting a lot,” said Amy Stephenson.

Ashley Pullen said doctors have downgraded the strength of themedications, and the family just hopes that it will continue tokeep the pain away.

“She’s not very alert at all,” she said. “We’re praying thismedication that’s not as strong will keep the pain away so thatshe’ll have the strength she needs to go through the physicaltherapy she needs.”

Doctors have told Eva Pullen’s family that she was hit by threesmall caliber bullets. One went into her arm, one went into herchest and came out her upper abdomen, and the last went into herhip and shattered her femur.

And in addition to putting Eva Pullen through quite a trial, theshooting has been a hard thing for her family to understand.

“She raised me, I lived with her ever since I was inkindergarten,” said Stephenson.

Ashley Pullen said family members are counting on “Nana” torally behind her trademark strength and come back from theinjuries.

“She knows that we’re praying for her,” said Ashley Pullen.”We’re hoping she’ll come out of this and get her Eva Pullenstrength back and get through this.”

Meanwhile, according to arrest records, Eva Pullen’s allegedassailants are not unknown to law enforcement.

In October of 2009, David Walker was one of three men arrestedin connection with an armed robbery of the City Mart on NorthJackson Street. He was indicted in February and was out on bondwhen he and his brother allegedly attacked Eva Pullen.

Quincy Walker has been on and off the radar for quite some time,and his hold with MDOC comes from a probation violation for a 2007charge of burglary and grand larceny. In addition, Quincy Walkerhas been in and out of jail for public profanity, disorderlyconduct, simple assault, possession of beer and possession ofliquor charges.

Sheriff Steve Rushing said cash bond means that the bond may bepaid in cash only, and that the suspect must come up with the fullamount before he can be released from jail.
