It’s time to start planning for the Lincoln County Relay forLife! As usual, Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church hasorganized a team. For this year’s relay, which is scheduled for May7-8, the theme is 1950s TV shows. Pleasant Grove has selected “ILove Lucy” as its individual theme for the year. The team mottowill be “I Love Life.”

The Pleasant Grove team will host several events that will lead upto the night of the relay. A bike-a-thon is currently beingplanned, along with a salad luncheon. Pledge cards will also beavailable in memory or in honor of someone for $1. These will beplaced on a tree in the family life center. Tickets will be soldfor a quilt donated by the Community Crafters.

The Relay for Life is the annual main volunteer-driven cancerfundraising event of the American Cancer Society, which isdedicated to finding a cure for cancer and eliminating the diseaseand the suffering it has caused. The relay draws thousands ofspectators and participants each year and is held at the BrookhavenExchange Club Park.

On Jan. 31, Jack Foster was the guest speaker for the eveningservice at Pleasant Grove. Jack and his wife, Jill, are missionworkers with the Navajo in New Mexico. They are residents of theEast Lincoln area and have been home for several weeks whilevisiting family and friends and speaking at area churches.

They were planning to leave home and return to New Mexico eitheryesterday or today. They had planned to leave earlier but thoseplans were canceled due to hazardous weather conditions in the areawhere they live in New Mexico. Pray for their safe journey andcontinued blessings for their good health and their ministry. TheFosters are doing amazing work over there.

Have you bought your tickets for the Pleasant Grove youthdepartment’s annual Valentine’s Day banquet? The banquet, which hasa Mardi Gras masquerade theme, will be on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. at thechurch. The youth will provide a meal, dessert and entertainment.Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from any youth member.

The area’s thoughts and prayers are with Jerry Weeks and BettyKyzar. Continued prayers are with the citizens of Haiti and therelief workers who are striving to bring order to the chaos theearthquake brought.
