Bears, Lady ‘Cats wear 1A crowns

VICKSBURG — The West Lincoln Bears and the Bogue Chitto Lady‘Cats captured Region 7-1A Tournament championships Monday night atthe St. Aloysius gymnasium.
The Bears knocked off the Sebastopol Bobcats 60-54 and the Lady‘Cats thumped the West Lincoln 57-43.
In the boys consolation game, Bogue Chitto won 60-55 overCathedral. Sebastopol beat Cathedral 55-43 in the girls consolationgame.
In tonight’s first round of the boys 1A South Mississippi playoffs,the West Lincoln boys host Edinburg and Bogue Chitto is at SouthLeake. All games start at 7 p.m.
Wednesday night, the BC girls (25-3) entertain South Leake and WestLincoln (18-10) hosts Thomastown in the first round of the SouthMississippi 1A playoffs.
B. Chitto 57, W. Lincoln 43
“Our girls came out and played well,” said Bogue Chitto girls coachChristi Terrell. “There were spurts offensively when we were dead.Both teams played hard. Coach (Lane) Young did well with his girls.I’m proud of my girls’ effort and hustle tonight.”
The ‘Cats were led to the win by Darcy Miller’s 18 points, 3rebound, 3 steals and 4 assists. Adrienne Hall and Aneshia Dillonnetted 9 points apiece.
“We played hard,” said Young. “Bogue Chitto is so hard to match upwith. Bogue Chitto has shot the ball well this year. They deserveto win.”
Leading the Lady Bears with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals wasTatianna Marshall. Hannah Knouse fired in 12 points, grabbed 7rebounds and made 3 assists.
West Lincoln 60, Sebastopol 54
The Bears (19-9)were led by Chad Herring with 17 points, 9 reboundsand 2 steals as they avenged two regular-season losses toSebastopol. Jay Case fired in 16 points, collected 5 rebounds, had4 assists and made 2 steals. De Price followed with 13 points, 5rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.
“We started off slow,” said Coach Young. “But we picked it up. Weplayed hard the rest of the game. Sebastopol got tired toward theend. We made plays at the end to win.”
Sebastopol led 17-11 at the end of the first quarter. West Lincolnexploded for a 21-13 run to take a 32-30 lead in at the half.
“Two great teams battled,” said Sebastopol boys coach Richie Lewis.”West Lincoln outplayed us tonight,”
The 14-4 Bobcats got 17 points from James Patrick. Scoring 13points was Patrick Adams. Lorenzo Patrick finished with 12points.
B. Chitto 60, Cathedral 55
In the consolation game, the 16-13 Bobcats, under first-year headcoach Jeremy Harrell, were led by Colby Johnson and Justin Londonwith 15 points apiece. Byron Kersee pumped in 12 points.
“We did not have the energy needed to start,” said Cathedral boyscoach Peter Arnold. “Both teams played hard and kept it close. Themain thing that killed us was that Bogue Chitto outrebounded us,especially on the offensive boards, getting second chanceopportunities.”
Carl Hammitte sparked Cathedral with 20 points. Daniel Huffinesfinished with 10 points.
